7 4 What steps must an applicant take to obtain a license as a professional engineer by examination in any branch of engineering? A: For all branches of engineering, meet all of the following requirements: (1) Have not committed any acts or offenses that would have caused the denial of a license (see question 18). ()) Be certified as an “Engineer-in-Training” (EIT) by passing or qualifying the FE exam in California or another state (see questions 2 and 3). ()) Review professional engineer application guidelines, flow charts and forms online: overlap work and all statements under oath. Engagement is a period in which engineering experience is gained without significant change in responsibility. The use of the term “see attachment” or see NCEES record and the inclusion of additional documents and/or a resume are not acceptable and cannot substitute for the relevant attachment record portion of the forms. The Engagement Record portion of the forms must be completed to allow the Board to determine that the nature of the engineering work performed by the applicant is truly eligible (see question 19 for required amounts). experience to be verified). While typing may seem like an unreasonable requirement, the board receives 13,000 applications a year that must be reviewed and microfilmed by various people. Therefore the application and related forms should be filled online and printed or typed; Handwritten applications and forms will not be accepted (5) Sign the application and engagement record portion of the engagement document and reference forms under penalty of perjury. Applications will not be processed without a handwritten signature without a Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (6) Send Part A and B of the engagement document to the required reference individuals. Engineers acting as your reference should complete Part A, Part B and sign and seal the form, seal both pages of the envelope provided by you, sign the flap, affix their seal and return the sealed envelopes. See questions 7, 25 and 26 for important information about appellant references 5
8(7) Include an original, sealed transcript with your application If the applicant is claiming experience credit for education, they must contact their college and send them a current copy of their official transcript in a sealed envelope. Credit for education will only be granted upon receipt of an official transcript in a sealed envelope that clearly shows the degree and the date it was issued. If a college does not provide an official transcript or if the college does not exist, the applicant must include a notarized photo of their possession. If the applicant’s name appearing on the transcript does not match the name used on the application, an explanation of the name change must be provided. If the original transcript or other educational document is in a language other than English, a copy must be accompanied by an original notarized English translation. Therefore, foreign education from a non-English speaking university must be verified with certified copies of original documents in languages other than English and certified English translations of original documents. (Such documents need not be received in a sealed envelope.) (8) If you need to be notified of the processing of your application, include two self-addressed, stamped postcards or envelopes with your application. Staff unable to handle phone calls and applications seeking status due to workload Applicants can confirm with their bank that application confirmation has been processed and receipt of postcard will confirm application processing and approval.
