If you’ve worked with the paid version of Google Workspaces, you know that you can upload your own templates to Google Docs and use them as needed. And working with a template will definitely help make your work more efficient. But with a free account, you’re limited to pre-made templates provided by Google. Although the template collection is great, it does not cover all needs.

So what do you do when you have a free workplace account and want to use your own templates?
The first thing you should pay attention to is creating a template. Go to Google Drive and create a new folder called Google Docs Templates. To do this, click the New button and in the window that opens (Figure 1), type Google Document Templates and click the Create button.
Change to that new folder and create your first template by clicking New > Google Docks > Blank Document. Build your first template in this new document (Figure 2).
After you’ve set up your template, click on Untitled Document (near the top left corner) and name the template as Book Template (Figure 3).
How To Create A Calendar In Google Docs
At this point, your first template is saved in the Google Docs Templates folder under your Google Drive account.
Things are a little less efficient here. Unlike the usual Google Docs template, here, open the template gallery (Figure 4), select the template you want, and get started.
Let’s say it’s time to use the first template. what are you doing The new folder you’ve created (and its contents) won’t show up in the Google Docs Templates gallery, and there’s no way to make it so.
Back in that Google Docs Templates folder, right-click on the template you just created and select Copy (Figure 5), which will create a new document called Copy X (where X is the name of your template).

Select a new folder to save the template copy. After doing this, go to the folder where the transferred file is located, right click on it, select Rename and give the file a new name. Then you can open the document and start working using the template.
This isn’t the most efficient way to create new templates in the free version of Google Workspaces, but it’s the best way to go if the template selection doesn’t meet your needs. And although it may seem a bit difficult at first, once you get used to the workflow, it will become second nature and you will be presented with a set of useful templates that will perfectly suit your needs.
