Presbyterian Church Statement Of Faith

Western Spire NNCC Nuggets for June 2013 Historically, the Presbyterian Church is a confessional church. This means we write confessions or statements of faith when we feel it is important to say something in a new way. Confessions, unlike “tweets,” are thought-provoking and meant to stay for a while. A 1976 Confession by the Presbyterians of the Southern Church contains encouraging words about stewardship and generosity: Christ teaches us to go beyond legal requirements to serve and help our neighbors. Treating the needs of your neighbors as your own. Caring for the welfare of others. To share what we have. It is part of our discipline to lead a simple life, abstaining from greed and luxuries that endanger the safety of our neighbors. It includes the beauty, order, health, and peace of our entire way of life, our entire way of life—the needs of others and the entire universe. We are called to live simply, that others may live; Give generously so that others may find great joy. I was reminded of these facts when we helped families after the Palmyra Highway fire. We’re not just talking about care. Western Presbyterians were outstanding examples of liberalism. Thank you very much! In the first two weeks we have donated over three thousand dollars and countless resources to rebuild people’s lives. We have about ten thousand dollars in our coffers (from the region and across the country) until closing in May. The Good Neighbor Fire Fund is currently being used to put security deposits on new homes. It’s going fast As a priest, I experienced a surge of both pride and joy when I saw the faces of the recipients when they realized that clothes and furniture were donated, not trash. But carefully selected, gently used items were used. People are happily “starting over” despite the pain of loss because you passionately cared about your neighbor. Mission boards and special members continue to support the Neighbor Fund on an ongoing basis. It lasts all year round. We get three to five calls a day asking for help…the need continues. But the fire was a wonderful reminder, “There, but for God’s grace, I go.” I know many of you give readily to the Good Neighbor Fund and the Firefighter Fund. Without further ado, thank you for your love and generosity throughout the year. Some days it’s so encouraging to be your own pastor! Thank you for trying to live your faith. Good neighbor, keep up the good work. Dr. Likewise, the Church of Jesus Christ is constantly being refined and shaped by our life experiences and encounters with the living Christ. The twenty-first century presents new challenges. God is working in new ways to renew the church, but can we see it? Genesis 7 – 9; Luke 17:22-37; 1 Peter 3:13-22. I contacted the reading specialist at that school and he contacted all the teachers to list the books needed because the state has once again moved to a different teaching method. New textbooks will be marked property OFRCSD for use by classroom teachers. Details will follow when it’s all put together, a big project for the whole church. We were able to get leftover books from the Macedon Library and 378 books went to school #7 to give to the kids as prizes or incentives. Another area of need is school volunteers. Bruce Pollock from the Free Partnership (a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the level of education at RCSD) has worked with RCSD to find volunteers who are willing to give at least an hour a week. The statistics at RCSD are very sad, here are a few:  9% of black males graduate within 4 years  79% of black families are single parents Math Test As a committee, we are likely to find church members.
