On Saturday, June 11, 2022, Alabamians and out-of-state visitors will be able to fish for free in public waters, including freshwater and saltwater. A free fishing day allows residents and non-residents to enjoy the great fishing Alabama has to offer without having to purchase a fishing license. The event is part of National Fishing and Boating Week, which runs from June 4-12.

“This is a great opportunity for non-anglers to check out the fishing waters and reminisce about all the fun they missed on anglers of the past,” said Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Commissioner Chris Blankenship. “Plus, it’s a day for kids to learn how fun and exciting fishing can be, and it gives families an opportunity to do something outdoors together.”

To celebrate Free Fishing Day, ADCNR and Academy Sports + Outdoors are hosting Go Fish in Alabama! June 11 from 8 a.m. to noon at 3800 Davenport Montgomery Dr. The event is free to attend. All necessary tackle, tackle and equipment will be provided. Learn more at https://www.outdooralabama.com/GoFishAlabama.

Free Fishing Day also takes place during Alabama’s red snapper season. Although fishing license requirements are waived for Free Fishing Day, red snapper anglers must have a $10 Gulf Reef Fishing Permit and Saltwater Angler Registration.
