Affirm’s (New) New Hire Experience Affirm’s (New) New Hire Experience Once upon a time, in an Affirm not too long ago, new hires from all over the U.S. traveled to our San Francisco office during their first week for a flurry of live onboarding trainings, meet-and-greets, espresso machine classes, cold brew on tap, and excited chatter with their fellow new Affirmers. Once upon a time, in an Affirm not too long ago, new hires from all over the U.S. traveled to our San Francisco office during their first week for a flurry of live onboarding trainings, meet-and-greets, espresso machine classes, cold brew on tap, and excited chatter with their fellow new Affirmers. But with the abrupt shift to a quarantined world, onboarding went fully online. Goodbye conference room, hello Zoom. For many, the quick transition from live training sessions in person to live training sessions online still worked. People were excited to be able to start a new job at all, and everyone knew we were navigating uncharted waters together. But with the abrupt shift to a quarantined world, onboarding went fully online. Goodbye conference room, hello Zoom. For many, the quick transition from live training sessions in person to live training sessions online still worked. People were excited to be able to start a new job at all, and everyone knew we were navigating uncharted waters together. As we started to settle into our new normal we wanted to embrace the opportunity to evolve Affirm onboarding to better match our surroundings. With Zoom fatigue on the rise, a record number of new hires joining Affirm each week, and remote-first roles attracting candidates from locations not just outside of the Bay Area, but worldwide (g’day, Australia!), we knew that the time-bound live training schedule of our onboarding presentations wasn’t going to be able to keep up with the Affirm of the (very near) future.  We needed to write the next chapter in the story of Affirm onboarding. As we started to settle into our new normal we wanted to embrace the opportunity to evolve Affirm onboarding to better match our surroundings. We really listened to what they had to say about onboarding success at Affirm. We took a hard look at gaps in the onboarding experience, and we strengthened our resolve to solve them. And we put our (webcammed) heads together to design clear and simple, yet innovative solutions that would get to the core of all new Affirmers’ needs and desires in their new roles. We talked to our people–new hires, managers, stakeholders, leaders, and more. We really listened to what they had to say about onboarding success at Affirm. We took a hard look at gaps in the onboarding experience, and we strengthened our resolve to solve them. And we put our (webcammed) heads together to design clear and simple, yet innovative solutions that would get to the core of all new Affirmers’ needs and desires in their new roles. Affirm Foundation helps new hires embrace their identity as an Affirmer right away, while being immersed in an interactive and engaging experience spanning their first 100 days.
